dc.description.abstract | Atlarda protozoal myeloensefalit (EPM), Sarcocystis neurona’nın neden olduğu sinirsel bir hastalıktır. Son konak opossumlar olup, atlar sarkokistlerin bulunmamasından dolayı atipik arakonak kabul edilmektedirler. Kedi, rakun, armadillo, su samuru ve kokarcalar arakonaklardır. EPM atlarda özellikle merkezi sinir sistemini etkilemekte; odak tarzında kas atrofisi ve asimetrik yürüyüş bozukluğu gibi çeşitli semptomlara yol açmaktadır. Klinik EPM teşhisinde beyin omurilik sıvısının S. neurona’ya spesifik antikorlar yönünden Western blot ile muayenesi gerekir. Tedavide sülfadiazin+pirimethamin’in yanı sıra alternatif olarak toltrazuril, ponazuril, diklazuril ve nitazoksanid kullanılır. | tr_TR |
dc.description.abstract | Equine protozoal myeloencephalitis (EPM) is a neurological disease of horses most commonly caused by Sarcocystis neurona. Opossums serve as definitive hosts and horses are considered as aberrant hosts because no sarcocysts are found in horses. Cats, raccoons, armadillos, sea otters and skunks are defined as intermediate hosts. EPM mainly affects the central nervous system of horses and causes a variety of clinical signs including asymmetric gait deficits with focal muscle atrophy. For the clinical diagnosis of EPM, examination of cerebrospinal fluid by Western blot for S. neurona specific antibodies is necessary. Treatment involves the use of sulfadiazine+pyrimethamine and, toltrazuril, ponazuril, diclazuril and nitazoxanide are possible alternatives. | en_US |
