Post-modern dünyada modern tarih yapmak üzerine

Abstract

Var oluş nedenini üst anlatıların sorgulanması ve eleştirel bir bakış açısıyla yeniden yorumlanması üzerine kuran post-modernist anlayış, 20. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru tarih disiplinine yönelik de özellikle bilimsellik ve nesnellik kavramları üzerinden kayıtsız kalması güç eleştiriler getirmiştir. Tarihin bir bilim olmaktan çok edebiyatın bir türü olduğunu savunan post-modernistler karşısında tarihçiler mesleklerini savunma işine girişmişlerdir. Bu yazının amacı geçtiğimiz birkaç on yıl içinde post-modernistler tarafından toptan bir sorgulama ve tarihçiler tarafından bütüncül bir savunu ile tarihçilik mesleğinin yıpratıldığını ve bu iki kutupluluk yüzünden uzunca bir zamandır sorulmayan “Tarih nedir?” sorusunun çağın düşünce anlayışı göz önünde bulundurularak yeniden sorulması gerektiği vurgulamak olacaktır.

The late-twentieth century postmodernist view that establishes its raison d’etre as critically questioning the validity of meta-narratives began to re-interpret and criticise history especially in terms of its being scientific and objective. Historians attempted to defend their profession against the postmodernist assertions that history is a branch of literature rather than a science. The aim of this article is to emphasize that the history profession has been distracted by the postmodernists’ root and branch attack, and the need to defend it against this challenge. This intellectual context suggests the necessity of re-posing the question of “What is history?” a question that has not been posed for a long time because of this polarization.
