This study is a part of a series of work to determine the possible preventive effects of s.c., Vitamin-A injections (125 TU/15 days) and alkalinized water (KOH 40 mg/liter) Ad libitum, against urolithiasis. Lambs were divided into 4 groups each of which was consisted of 30 heads. Group 1 served as negative controls, on concentrated feed and normal water whi/e the second received Vıtamin-A and the third had alkalinized water. The last group was treated with both of Vitamin supplementation and alkalinized water as the positive test group for both factors. Ten lambs from each group were slaughtered at one month interval beginning by the termination of the fourth week from the start: Blood and urine sarnples were collected from each slaughtered animal and were subjected to biochemical tests to determine the total protein, urea and uric acid, calcium and phosphate levels in blood, and uric acid, ammonia, carbonate, phosphate, calcium and cystine levels in urine qualitatively. By the end of the 8. and 12. weeks the following figures were found to be statistically important changes in blood. Group I: The total protein dropped from 4.58 % to 3.61 g/100 ml (p ≤ 0.005), Urea increased up to 35.41 mg from 27.99 mg/100 ml (p ≤ 0.05); In Group II. total protein dropped 3.50 g from 5.43 g/100 ml (p ≤ 0.05), Calcium was down to 8.76 mg from 13.3 mg/100 ml of blood (p ≤ 0.005), with the phosphate values of 6.20 mg from 8.34 mg/100 ml (p ≤ 0.005); In the third group the total protein was down to 3.56 from 4.59 g/100 ml (p ≤ 0.05) as the phosphate 6.05 mg from 8,81 mg/100 ml (p ≤ 0.001) of blood; In the positive control lambs (Gr. 4) the total protein 4.83 g dropped down to 3.62 g/100 ml (p ≤ 0.01) as the phosphate did from 8.75 to 5.86 mg/100 ml (p ≤ 0.001). And the qualitative analyses of urine showed marked increases in the levels of calcium, phosphate, uric acid, ammonia and cystine in collected samples.en_US
