Vaginal prolapse is the protrusion of oedematous vaginal tissue into and through the opening of the vulva, during pro-oestrus and oestrus. Vaginal prolapse can also be caused by vaginal tumours, but this is fairly rare. In this report, a five-year-old bitch is described with a type III vaginal prolapse related to a vaginal leiomyoma. The bitch was nulliparous and was in dioestrus; concomitant pyometra was also detected. The tumor and prolapsed vagina were removed by circumferential excision of the prolapsed tissue under general anaesthesia. The anamnesis, clinical examination, the haematologic, ultrasonographic and pathological findings and the treatment of the case are discussed. Compared to other vaginal disorders, vaginal prolapse is an uncommon condition in the bitch.en_US
