Formaldehit kullanımı ve zararları

Abstract

Formaldehit çeşitli meslek gruplarında yaygın olarak kullanılan bir maddedir. Kadavra açımı ile uğraşan makroskopik anatomistler ise formaldehitten en çok etkilenen meslek grubudur. Akut ve kronik zararlı etkileri nedeniyle bir çok ülkede çalışma ortamındaki formaldehit yoğunluğuna ve çeşitli yoğunluklardaki çalışma saatlerine sınırlamalar getirmiştir. Göz yaşarması, farinks ve burun mukozası irritasyonu gibi akut etkileri yanı sıra özellikle glioma görülme oranının anlamlı derecede yüksekliği, myeloid lösemi nazal karsinoma ve hepatotoksisite görülmesi formaldehit yoğunluklarının azaltılmasını, alternatif kadavra ilaçlama solüsyonlarının geliştirilmesini gerekli kılmaktadır.

Formaldehyde is a widely used material in different professions. Macroscopic anatomists who deal with dissection are exposed to formaldehyde much more than other jobs. Because of its acute and chronic hazards, restrictions to its concentration and working hours are put by many occupational health authorities. Beyond its acute effects like excessive lacrimation, initiation of the laryngeal and nasal mucous membranes; the significant elevation of gliomas and incidence of myeloid leukemia, nasal carcinoma and hepatotoxicity, makes it necessary to lower the formaldehyde concentrations in the working environment, and to find alternative embalming solutions.
