Abstract: Electrical discharge compaction (EDC) of metal powders is a relatively new process, which combines the advantages of compacting metal powders and fast sintering. In this process, metal powder contained in an electrically non-conducting tube is suddenly subjected to a high voltage. As a result and under suitable conditions, the specimen will consolidate. It is a fast, cheap and reproducible process. In this study, stainless steel powder filters with different shapes and sizes are produced by the EDC process and different aspects of the products are investigated. Porosity measurements of filters are also presented. The porosity of these stainless steel powder filters is found to be comparable with those produced by other techniques.
