İzdivaç dergisi bağlamında Osmanlı İstanbul’unda evlilik kurumunun toplumsal dinamikleri

Abstract

Geniş ve çeşitli bir sosyal yapıya sahip Osmanlı toplumunu anlayabilmek adına, bu örgütlenmeyi oluşturan insanların anlayışları, sosyal hayattaki pratikleri, siyasi ve entelektüel çevrelerden ne denli etkilendikleri gibi konuların ele alınması gerekir. Bu incelemeyi yapmaya en uygun olgulardan biri de evliliktir. Ancak evlenme pratikleri ve evlilik anlayışları; toplumsal olaylara, bölgelere ve tarihsel süreçte geçirilen evrime göre farklı dinamikler sergiler. Bu nedenle öncelikle bu tarihsel süreçten bahsetmek ve evliliğin etkilendiği siyasi ve toplumsal olaylara değinmek gerekir. Evlilik; Eski Türklerden itibaren korunan gelenekler ve İslâm anlayışının harmanlanması sonucu Osmanlı toplumunda farklı bir biçim almıştır. Fakat, XIX. yüzyıl itibariyle Osmanlı Devleti’nin yüzünü Batı’ya dönmesiyle başlayan Batılılaşma sürecinin ve I. Dünya Savaşı’nın etkisiyle evlilik örüntülerinde bazı değişimler yaşanmaya başlamıştır. Kadın tarihsel süreçte her zaman talibini bekleyen ve talep edilen tarafken, XX. yüzyılda evlenmek için bir dergiye ilan verebilecek hatta kriterlerini belirtebilecek duruma gelmiştir. Bu bağlamda tezin ilk iki bölümde kadının ulaştığı bu seviyenin tarihsel arka planı incelenip yaşanan dönüşüm anlaşılır kılındıktan sonra üçüncü bölümde İzdivaç Dergisi’nde yer alan metin ve ilanlar üzerinden dönemin Osmanlı toplumunun bir profili çizilecek, evlilik anlayışları ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır.

In order to understand the Ottoman society, which had a wide and diverse social structure, it is necessary to address issues such as the understanding of the people who made up this structure, their practices in social life, and how much they were influenced by the political and intellectual environments. One of the most appropriate cases to make this examination is marriage. However, marriage practices and conceptions of marriage; it exhibits different dynamics according to social events, regions and evolution in the historical process. For this reason, first of all, it is necessary to address the political and social events that affected speech and marriage from this historical process. Marriage; it took a different form in the Ottoman society as a result of the blending of the traditions preserved from the ancient Turks and the understanding of Islam. But, in the 19th century, some events began to occur in marriage patterns under the influence of the Westernization process that started with the Ottoman Empire's departure to the West and the 1st World War. While women are always the party that awaits and is demanded in the historical processes, in the 20th century, she became able to advertise in a magazine and even specify every criteria for getting married. After examining the background of this level reached by the women first two chapter and making the experiences clear, a profile of the Ottoman society of the period will be drawn through the texts and advertisements in the third chapter Izdivac Magazine, and their understanding of marriage will be revealed.
