Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi öğrencilerinde depresyon, intihar olasılığı ve mesleki karar pişmanlığı ilişkisi

Abstract

Tıp öğrencilerinde giderek artan depresyon ve intihar endişe uyandırmaktadır. Bu çalışmayla tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinde depresyon, intihar olasılığı ve mesleki pişmanlık ilişkisinin ortaya koyulması amaçlanmıştır. Çalışmamıza Bursa Uludağ Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi’nde eğitimine devam eden gönüllü 208 öğrenci dâhil edilmiştir. Katılımcılar bir defa kesitsel olarak görülüp; Sosyodemografik Veri Formu, Beck Depresyon Ölçeği (BECK -D), İntihar Olasılığı Ölçeği (İOÖ), Mesleki Karar Pişmanlığı Ölçeği (MKPÖ) ile değerlendirilmiştir. Çalışmamızda tıp fakültesini seçmekten pişman olanlarda, geçmişinde intihar girişimi bulunanlarda, sigara kullananlarda, alkol kullananlarda, sosyoekonomik durumu kötü olanlarda depresyon ve intihar olasılığının daha fazla olduğu saptanmıştır. Süreğen hastalığı olanlarda ve daha önce staj ya da sene tekrarı yapanlarda da mesleki karar pişmanlığı daha yüksek bulunmuştur. 4. ve 6. sınıfların tıp fakültesi seçiminden pişman olma oranları 1. sınıfa göre yüksek bulunmuştur. Pişmanlık nedenlerine bakıldığında 4. ve 6. sınıfların çalışma koşulları ve ekonomik sebepler nedeniyle pişmanlığı 1. sınıflara göre daha fazla, 6. sınıfların hekimlik mesleğine olan saygınlığın azalması nedeniyle tıp fakültesi seçiminden pişmanlığı 1. ve 4. sınıflara göre daha fazla bulunmuştur. Pişmanlık nedenlerinin sayısı arttıkça depresyon ve intihar olasılığının da arttığı görülmüştür. Meslek seçimi kararından pişmanlığı etkileyen faktörler incelendiğinde, çalışma koşullarından pişmanlık ve bulunulan sınıfın etkili olduğu görülmüştür. Tıp öğrencilerinde depresyon, intihar düşüncesi ve mesleki pişmanlık ilişkisini ve nedenlerini saptayabilmek, bizlere erken müdahale açısından önemli bir alan sağlayacaktır.

Increasing depression and suicide rates in medical students are raising concerns. In this study, it is aim to reveal the relationship between depression, suicide probability and career decision regret among medical students. 208 students are included in this study, who continue their education at Bursa Uludağ University, Faculty of Medicine. Participants who were evaluated with Sociodemographic Data Form, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Suicide Probability Scale (SPS), and Decision Regret Scale (DRS) (adapted form for the career choice) were seen cross-sectionally once. In our study, the probability of depression and suicide was found to be higher in those who regret their choice of medical school; have attempted suicide in the past, smoke, use alcohol and have poor socioeconomic status. Career decision regret was found to be higher in those with chronic disease and those who repeated their internship or the year. The 4th and 6th graders’ regrets about choosing a medical school were higher than the 1st graders. Considering the reasons for regret, it was found that the 4th and 6th graders were more regretful than the 1st graders due to the working conditions and economic reasons. It was found that 6th graders regretted their choice of medical school more than 1st and 4th graders due to the decrease in the prestige of the medical profession. It was observed that the probability of depression and suicide increased as the number of reasons for regret increased It was observed that the working conditions and the university years of the students had an impact on the regret factors of choosing the profession. Identifying the relationship and causes of depression, suicidal ideation and career decision regret in medical students can provide us with an important area for early intervention.
