Kültürel/tarihsel belgesel filmlerin yabancı dil olarak Türkçe öğrenen öğrencilerin sözcük dağarcığı gelişimine katkısı: Gizemli tarih Göbeklitepe belgeseli örneği

Abstract

Bu çalışmada, yabancı dil olarak Türkçe öğrenen öğrencilerin eğitimlerinde, kültürel/tarihsel belgesel filmler kullanılmasının öğrencilerin sözcük dağarcığının gelişimine katkısı incelenmiştir. Çalışma, deneysel ve betimleyici tarama çalışması şeklinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmanın deneysel aşamasında tek gruplu ön test-son test uygulaması yapılmıştır. Bu kapsamda yapılan çalışmada, öncelikle literatür taraması yapılmış ve konuya ilişkin kavramlar betimlenmiştir. Araştırmada materyal olarak, “Gizemli Tarih: Göbeklitepe” belgesel filmi kullanılmış ve film izletilerek öğrencilerin sözcük dağarcığı yeterliliklerinin gelişip gelişmediği incelenmiştir. Bu kapsamda, öğrencilere 100 farklı Türkçe sözcüğün anlamını bilip bilmedikleri ön ve son testlerde sorulmuştur. Çalışmaya, 27 farklı ülkeden gelen 52 öğrenci gönüllü olarak katılım sağlamıştır. Araştırma verileri anket tekniği ile toplanmıştır. Verilerin istatistiki analizleri sonucunda, araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin büyük çoğunluğunun eğitimini gördükleri yabancı dilde (Türkçe) belgesel film izlemenin kişisel gelişimlerine katkısı olacağına inandıkları; en çok belgesel filmeler ve aksiyon/macera türleri, en az ise korku/gerilim ve magazin türleri izlemeyi tercih ettikleri; en çok bilim ve teknoloji ve tarih, en az ise spor ve astronomi türü belgesellerin tercih edildiği; öğrencilerin belgesel izleyememe nedenleri arasında belgesel izlemeye zaman olmadığı seçeneğinin dikkat çekici şekilde yüksek olduğu, derslerde izlemesi tercih edilen film türlerinin belgesel filmler, kısa film, sinema filmleri olduğu; öğrenilen yabancı dilde özellikle tarih ve bilim/teknoloji türlerinin izlenmek istendiği tespit edilmiştir. Belgesel filmlerin dil yetilerinin gelişimine yönelik olarak öğrencilerin en çok sırasıyla; dinleme anlama, görme anlama, izleme anlama, telaffuz, kültür/ülke bilgisi, konuşma, sözcük dağarcığı, medya yetisi, okuma anlama, dil bilgisi, imla kuralları ve yazma alanlarında gelişme yaşandığını düşündükleri tespit edilmiştir. Araştırmaya katılan öğrencilerin, “Gizemli Tarih: Göbeklitepe” belgesel filmini izlemeden önceki ve sonraki ham puanlar arasında ortalama 21,442 puan ve net puanlar arasında ortalama 24,526 puanlık bir iyileşme gerçekleştiği ve bu iyileşmenin istatistiksel olarak anlamlı düzeyde olduğu belirlenmiştir. Bu iyileşmenin öğrencilerin sosyo-demografik özelliklerine göre farklılaşıp farklılaşmadığının belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılan analizler sonucunda, öğrencilerin ham ve net puan ortalamalarının cinsiyete, yaşa, geldikleri ülke kıtasına ve eğitim gördükleri/görecekleri fakülte/yüksekokul türüne göre anlamlı farklılık göstermediği, günlük ortalama TV izleme sürelerine göre ise ham puan ortalamalarının farklılaşmazken, net puan ortalamalarında farklılıklar bulunduğu tespit edilmiştir.

In this study, the contribution of using cultural/historical documentary films in the education of students learning Turkish as a foreign language to the development of students' vocabulary was examined. The study was carried out as an experimental and descriptive survey study. In the experimental phase of the study, a single-group pre-test-post-test application was made. In the study, first of all, a literature review was made and the concepts related to the subject were described. The documentary film "Mysterious History: Göbeklitepe" was used as material in the research, and it was examined whether the students' vocabulary proficiency developed or not by watching the movie. In this context, students were asked whether they knew the meaning of 100 different Turkish words. 52 students from 27 different countries participated in the study voluntarily. Research data were collected by questionnaire technique. As a result of the statistical analysis of the data, the majority of the students who participated in the research believed that watching a documentary film in a foreign language (Turkish) they studied would contribute to their personal development; they prefer to watch documentary films and action/adventure genres the most, and horror/thriller and magazine genres the least; mostly science and technology and history, least sports and astronomy type documentaries are preferred; among the reasons for students not being able to watch documentaries, the option of not having time to watch documentaries is remarkably high; It has been determined that especially history and science/technology genres are wanted to be watched in the foreign language learned. Regarding the development of the language skills of documentary films, the students mostly; It has been determined that they think that there is improvement in listening comprehension, seeing comprehension, watching comprehension, pronunciation, culture/country knowledge, speaking, vocabulary, media ability, reading comprehension, grammar, spelling rules and writing. It was determined that the students who participated in the research had an average improvement of 21,442 points between the raw scores before and after watching the documentary film “Mysterious History: Göbeklitepe” and an average of 24,526 points between the net scores, and this improvement was statistically significant. As a result of the analyzes carried out to determine whether this improvement differs according to the socio-demographic characteristics of the students, it was found that the raw and net average score of the students did not differ significantly according to gender, age, the continent of the country they came from, and the type of faculty/school they studied/will attend. It was determined that while the raw score averages did not differ, there were differences in the net score averages.
