Abstract: In this study, what kind of changes may occorin the mechanical properties of glass reinforced plastics are investigated. In Chapter 1 we briefly dealed with differences in general properties of plastic materials in comparison with metalic materials. In Chapter 2 the structures of these materials, manifacturing techniques, varieties and casting techniques are mentioned. Mechanical properties of polyester resin, which is a plastic material, as being matrix material and those of composite material obtained by using glass strand at as reinforced material are mentioned theoretically in Chapter 3. In the fourth chapter,which is devoted to experimental studies, by using polyester resin, with is commercial name NEOXILRP 325, and glass woven and glass strand mat as reinforcing materials we prepared tensile test specimens of different resin/glass reinforcement ratio. These specimens are subjected to tensile test and their breaking stresses and modulie of elasticity are experimentally determined. Also dynamic modulie of elasticity of these specimens are determined by using ultrasonic test methods. It is concluded that reinforcement of plastics improves their mechanical properties as comparable with metals.
