Yabancı dil ingilizce eğitiminde kelime öğrenme stratejilerinin öğretimi

Abstract

Bu çalışma öğrencileri ilk kez karşılaştıkları bir kelimenin anlamını bulmaya yönelik kullanabilecekleri çeşitli stratejiler ile tanıştırma ve kelime öğrenme stratejileri öğretiminin öğrencilerin kelime öğrenimi hakkındaki düşüncelerinde ve strateji kullanımlarında, anket sonuçlarına ve kelime testi sonuçlarına göre, yarattığı farklılıkları incelemeyi amaçlamıştır. Çalışmaya U.Ü. Yabancı Diller Yüksekokulu'nda eğitim gören dört Alt-Orta düzey sınıf öğrencileri katılmıştır. Kelime öğrenme stratejileri öğretimi altı haftalık bir süreçte gerçekleştirilmiştir. Veri toplama araçları Kelime Öğrenme Stratejileri Anketi ve Kelime Bilgisi Testleridir. Anket sonuçları ve kelime bilgisi testi sonuçlan istatistik programı ile incelenmiş ve yapılan analiz sonuçlan tablolar halinde gösterilmiştir. Tablolarda yüzde ve frekans değerleri ile t-testi sonuçlan ve Cochran Q testi sonuçları özetlenmiştir. Anlamlılık düzeyi,05 olarak alınmıştır. Elde edilen bulgulara göre kelime öğrenme stratejileri öğretimi öğrencilerin kelime öğrenimi hakkındaki düşüncelerinde bir farklılık yaratmamış, ancak strateji kullanımlarında, anket ve kelime bilgisi testi sonuçlarına göre, farklılık yaratmıştır. Alınan sonuçlardan yapılan kelime öğrenme stratejileri öğretiminin öğrencilerin kelime öğrenmelerine ve strateji kullanımlarına olumlu etkisi olduğu düşünülmektedir.

This study aimed at making students aware of different vocabulary learning strategies to deal with an unknown word. It also aimed at examining the differences strategy training made on the opinions of students about vocabulary learning and their strategy use according to the results of the questionnaire and vocabulary tests. Four Pre-intermediate level EFL classes at Uludağ University School of Foreign Languages participated in the study. The study was conducted in the spring term of 2002-2003 academic year and it lasted six weeks. The data collection instruments were vocabulary learning strategies questionnaire and vocabulary tests. The results of the questionnaire and vocabulary tests were analyzed with a statistics programme. The tables in the study show the frequencies and percentages, t-test scores and Cochran Q test scores. The degree of significance was taken as.05. According to the results of the study, the vocabulary learning strategies training hasn't made a significant difference on the opinions of students about vocabulary learning, but it has made a difference on their strategy use. Therefore, it is thought that the treatment the students received contributed to students' vocabulary learning positively
