Olasılığın temel kuralları bilgisinin yapılandırmacı kurama göre oluşturulması sürecinin incelenmesi

Abstract

Olasılık konusu öğrenciler tarafından zor olarak bilinen bir konudur. Aynı zamanda olasılıkla ilgili temel kavram ve kurallar öğrencilerin öğrenmekte güçlük çektiği kavram ve kurallar olarak bilinmektedir. Çalışmada, öğrencilerin zorlandıkları bir konu olarak bilinen olasılık konusu çalışılmıştır. Bu çalışmada olasılığın öğrenilmesindeki bilgi oluşturma süreçlerinin belirlenmesi günümüz popüler eğitim kuramlarından biri olan yapılandırmacılık teorisi çerçevesinde incelenmiştir.Çalışma 2008-2009 eğitim öğretim yılı bahar döneminde Kocaeli İli İzmit İlçe Milli Eğitim Müdürlüğüne bağlı Nuh Çimento İlköğretim Okulu'nda yapılmıştır. Yedinci sınıfa devam eden 102 öğrenciye, olasılık konusu ile ilgili ön bilgilerini değerlendirme testi uygulanmıştır. Ön bilgileri değerlendirme testinden başarılı olan 65 öğrenciden, bu öğretim yılı güz dönemindeki matematik dersi not ortalamaları ve SBS (Seviye Belirleme Sınavı) notlarına göre 4' ü düşük başarılı, 4' ü yüksek başarılı sekiz öğrenci seçilmiştir. Çalışma, seçilen bu sekiz öğrenci ile yürütülmüştür.Çalışma, bir örnek olay incelemesidir. Bu çalışmada nitel bir durum analizi yapılmıştır. Gözlem, görüşme ve doküman incelemesi gibi nitel araştırma yöntemleri bir arada kullanılmıştır. Burada öğrencilerin düşünsel süreçlerini genellemek değil bu süreci oluşturan bileşenleri ve soyutlamayı incelemek amaçlanmıştır. Bu çalışmanın veri toplama araçları, örnek olay çalışmasının dokümanları; öğrencilerin etkinlikleri yaptıkları çalışma kağıtları, ses ve video görüntüleridir. Sonuç olarak hem matematiksel başarısı düşük hem de matematik başarısı yüksek olan öğrencilerin olasılığın temel kavram ve kuralları bilgisini kısmen de olsa soyutlayabildikleri görülmüştür.

Probability is a very tough topic among learners. Similarly, students also face difficulties in understanding of the terms and principles regarding probability. This study has focused on the probability which is seen a very difficult topic among students. In this study, the determination of knowledge establishment in learning probability has been analyzed within the constructivist theory, which is recently one of the most popular theories in education.The study was conducted in Izmit Nuh Çimento Primary School, Kocaeli during the Spring Semester of 2008-2009. I have applied a test for evaluating students? pre-knowledge on probability to 102-seventh grade students. Based on their performance in their grade of mathematics in their school during the Fall Semester of 2008-2009 and the SBS Exam (A Turkish Examination for Primary School Student to Enter High Schools), four students from the lowest group and four students from the highest group, a total of eight students have been selected among 65 students who had been successful in the test for evaluating students pre-knowledge on probability. This study has been conducted with these eight students.This study, thus, is a sample case study. This study is based on a qualitative case analysis. Such qualitative methods as observation, conversation and documentarian examination are all used together. Here, the aim is not to generalize students thinking processes, but to analyze the abstractions and combinations of these processes. The tools of this study are the documents of sample case study, students working papers on activities and other vocal and visual materials. As a result, it has been found out that both higher-level and lower-level students have been able to abstract, more or less, basic terms and principles of probability.
