Özet: Panorama is a novel that tells the story of Turkish Republic until 1950. In this novel Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu, one of the pioneering authors of new Turkey, talks about the phases of Turkish revolution; wornes and contrasts in Turkish political, social and cultural life, and dangers to which Turkish revolution is exposed. The writer talks about politicians, religious fanatics, opportunists, immorals, disappointed people and those who believe that they suffer from the system. In this study we have tried to show 1923 and 1950 how Turkish intellectuals had been reflected into this panorama. A variety of professional intellectuals such as politicians, teachers, journalists and doctors have different thoughts on Turkish revolutions, public life, bureaucracy, Atatürk's death, Second World War and transition to multi-party system in Turkey. Y. Kadri develops his novel within a dua/istic plot. He, thus, reflects opposite thoughts in the high social class and tragedy of the intel/ectual both before and after 1938; intellectuals act in a confused manner having different ideas in their minds. Most of intellectuals lost their enthusiasm about the revolutionary spirit that they had shared during the War of Independence, as time passed on, especially between the years 1923 and 1950. But now they are concerned only with their own interests. Halil Ramiz, who speaks on behalf of the writer, is a real inte/leetual in that he has a mature personality and can defend his own ideas quite strongly. Panorama , while trying to establish firmly the principles of Turkish Revolution via intellectuals, comes out as an impressive example pointing to disappointments in practice, and the danger of religious extremism which, even today, persists in Turkey. In sum, Panorama presents social and political processes from the very beginning of Turkish Revolution to 1950's, and the changes in the regards and thoughts of intellectuals in that arduous period.
