Abstract: Electrical discharge compaction (EDC) process involves electrical, physical, mathematical modelling and metallurgical investigation to gain correct insight into the parameters which govern the mechanism of consolidation. The process also involves heat dissipation, current distribution, temperature distribution, fast sinteringand the influence of rate of cooling in the microstructure of material. In this paper, the aim is to get a better understanding of value and thermo-mechanism of neck formation and growth in the EDC process for powdered metals, which should improve the industrial applications of the process. The rate and pattern of heat generation in the process by using remote pyrometric technique are also discussed.
