“Oxford Dictionary of Idioms” adlı sözlükteki “R” harfinin altında bulunan deyimler üzerine bir değerlendirme

Abstract

Söz varlığı; bir dilin içindeki deyimler, atasözleri, ikilemeler, kalıp sözler vb. ögelerden oluşmaktadır. Her dildeki deyimler; sayıca farklıdır. Bir dilin söz varlığı çalışması, deyimler olmadan düşünülemez. Sayıları değişiklik gösterse de deyimler, her dilin söz varlığında yer almaktadır. Her dilde deyimler üzerinde yapılmış çalışmalar vardır. Bu çalışmalardan en önemlileri sözlüklerdir. Deyimler sözlüklerinin hazırlandığı dillerden biri de İngilizcedir. “Oxford Dictionary of Idioms” bu çalışmalardan birisidir. İncelendiğinde bu sözlükte deyim olmayan söz öbeklerinin de deyim olarak değerlendirildiği görülecektir. Çalışmanın evrenini, bu deyimler Sözlüğü, konusunu ise sözlüğün “R” harfi altındaki deyim olarak değerlendirilebilecek madde başları oluşturmaktadır. A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, İ, J, K, L, M, N, O ve P harflerinin madde başları, daha önceki X (on) makalede incelenmiştir. Bu çalışma, önceki X (on) çalışmanın devamı niteliğinde olduğundan, bundan önceki çalışmalardaki saptama ve değerlendirmeler doğrultusunda “R” harfi ele alınmıştır. 322 söz öbeğinin içerisinden 121 söz öbeğinin deyim olabileceği değerlendirilmesi yapılmıştır.

Vocabulary; idioms, proverbs, reduplications, pattern words etc. in a language. consists of elements. Idioms in every language are numerically different. Vocabular study of a language is unthinkable without idioms. Although their number varies, idioms are present in the vocabulary of every language. There are studies on idioms in every language. The most important of these studies are dictionaries. One of the languages in which idioms dictionaries are prepared is English. “Oxford Dictionary of Idioms” is one of these studies. When examined, it will be seen that phrases that are not idioms in this dictionary are also considered as idioms. The universe of the study is the Dictionary of these idioms, and the subject is the headlines that can be considered as the idiom under the letter "R" in the dictionary. The headings of the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, I, İ, J, K, L, M, N, O and P were examined in the previous X (ten) articles. Since this study is a continuation of the previous X (ten) studies, the letter "R" has been discussed in line with the determinations and evaluations in previous studies. It was evaluated that 121 phrases out of 322 phrases could be idioms.
